The Creston Gazette had the following concerning the death of J.R. LARIMER,
of that city. He was a brother of the late HUGH and W.K. LARIMER, of this
county and his wife was a sister of MRS. H.W. ELLIOTT, of Russell, and MRS.
REA, of this city. His daughter, MRS. BENTLEY, now of Denver, formerly
resided in Chariton:

"The announcement that J.R. LARIMER had died suddenly at 10:15 this morning,
was a great shock to the community, and was especially a surprise from the
fact that but a few minutes before his death he had been about the streets
of the city in his usual health and had held converse with friends, and at
that time gave no indication that aught was wrong, and up to the very moment
of his death had made no complaint of feeling at all badly.

MR. LARIMER arose at the usual hour this morning and after performing some
of the work about the house and yard of his residence, came to the city for
the purpose of consulting with friends in regard to some duties in
connection with his work on the Board of Registration on which board he has
acted as one of the registrars. He called at the office of County Attorney
Fry for some advice, and then went to the store of his son-in-law, FRANK
AGNEW, and while there met several friends with whom he conversed on the
usual topics of the day. Shortly before 10 o'clock he left for home, and on
the way stopped at the home of his son-in-law, FRANK AGNEW, on Montgomery
Street, and after some conversation with his daughter, MRS. AGNEW, took up
the little boy about a year old and was sitting in a chair holding the baby
when MRS. AGNEW stepped into another room. FRANKLIN AGNEW, aged three years
was also playing about the room. In a few minutes MRS. AGNEW was startled
by the crying of the baby and the little three year old boy came running to
her with the announcement that his grandpa had fallen from his chair. MRS.
AGNEW hurried to the front room and found her father on the floor on his
back and life apparently extinct. Drs. Torrey and Keith were immediately
sent for and hurried to the home, and found that the expected was only too
true, and that MR. LARIMER had died almost instantly. As to the cause of
the demise there is only conjecture. MR. LARIMER was in good health for a
man of his age, with no ailment that is known, except that in the past he
has suffered to some extent from bladder trouble, but this has not given him
trouble recently. His death may have been caused from the rupture of a
blood vessel and the resulting apoplexy, or from a sudden attack of heart
trouble, although he was not known to have an affection of the heart.

MR. LARIMER was 69 years of age last August, and has been a resident of
Creston for the past twenty-two years, coming to this city from Kansas,
where he had taken up some land a few years previously, but was originally
an Iowa man. He was during the war a member of the 34th Iowa Volunteer
Infantry and served entirely during the war in that regiment."
