Deceased Name: F. Marie Gookin
F. Marie Gookin,84, of 2030 First Ave. NE , died Thursday, Aug. 8, 1996, at home, following a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Oakland Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Rapids , by the Rev. Paul Miller. Burial: Chariton Cemetery , Chariton . Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion.
Survivors include her husband, Howard; four sons, Warren and wife Marjorie of Cheyenne, Wyo., Vernon and wife Patti of Aurora, Colo., Richard and wife Lena of Morrison, Colo., and Nolan and wife Karen of Castle Rock, Colo., a daughter, Pauline Cherryholmes and husband Burl of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Mildred Prough of Chariton; and three brothers, Donald Besco and Dean Besco, both of Corydon, and Dale Besco of Mesa, Ariz. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Alberta Gookin; two brothers, David and Delmer Besco; and two sisters, Maxine Cherryholmes and Mirl May.
Born the daughter of Joseph and Zella Shepard Besco on Jan. 10, 1912, in Russell, she married Howard Gookin there on April 15, 1931. Marie was a seamstress for the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne , Wyo. , for 19 years. She was a member of Oakland Church of the Nazarene.
Memorials may be made to Oakland Church of the Nazarene, 3000 42nd St. NE , or Hospice of St. Luke's.
