Effie Carson

Effie Lovise Avitt, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Avitt, was born Feb. 25, 1874, in English township Lucas county, and departed this life at her home in Chariton Aug. 1, 1961, at the age of 87 years, five months, and four days.

On Nov. 13, 1898, she was united in marriage to John Harvey Carson, who preceded her in death 16 years ago.

To this union five children were born; Mrs. Mildred Miller of Gary, Ind., John Maurice Carson, who passed away about two years ago, Mrs. Alice James of Knoxville, Earl R. Carson of Chariton, and Truman G., who passed away six years ago.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Surviving are four brothers and one sister, John Avitt of Corvallis, Ore., Ralph of Chariton, Leslie of Des Moines, and Mark and Mrs. Susie Graves, both of Williamson.

Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

In early life, Mrs. Carson became a member of Belinda Christian church, later transferring her membership to the Central Christian church.

She lived most of her life in and around Chariton, except one year in Montana and Oregon.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m., at the Miley Chapel. The Rev. A. E. Beals officiated, and interment was at Oxford cemetery.
