Marion Mildred Day was born in Lynn County, Kansas, at Pleasanton on July 27, 1872. There she grew to womanhood and was educated in the Pleasanton schools. She was the youngest daughter of N P and Mary J DAY.
She was married to Lewis H Smith on December 23, 1888. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Charles Anderson {Mary Katherine}, of Chariton, and Mrs. E A Thomas {Audrey}, of Tingley, who with a devoted husband are left to mourn her demise. She was converted at the age of fourteen, and was united with the Methodist church. Eight years after the marriage the husband entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal church. She stood by him in all the problems of his ministry. For 22 years she graced the parsonages of the charges (sic) that she and her husband served, with Christian and Godly life. She departed this life from the M. E. parsonage at Ellston, Iowa, December 13, 1918, at 10 o’clock in the morning.
Funeral services were held from the home on Monday at 12 o’clock, conducted by Dist. Supt. Dr. R. E. Shaw. Interment was made in the Chariton cemetery at Chariton, Iowa, where a short burial service was conducted by Rev. J, W. Goodsell, pastor of the Methodist church.
