It was on the eighth day of May 1964 that Earl Whittlesey accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and came to know him as Lord and Father.

This poem was composed by his granddaughter, Rita Reynolds.

At the close of day we lay to rest

A man we loved so dear

A man who shall be gone from us

But yet will be so near

Behind he leaves a life so rich

And filled with many joys

Among them are his loving wife

Two daughters and five boys

Our hearts are filled with sadness

To think he’s gone away

No more to hear his laughter

No more to share his day

We’ll miss his loving tenderness

And long to touch his hand

We’ll wish that we had spent more time

With him upon this land

But he has found happiness

In heaven up above

For he has joined the Saviour

And will have eternal love.

Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 1964 at Nazarene church. The Rev. Homer L. Max officiating. Interment was in the Russell cemetery. Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton had charge of arrangements.
