CHRISTINA PETERSON - IN MEMORIUM

Christina Peterson was born in Sweden, June 9, 1829, and departed this life November 15, 1894, aged 65 years, 5 months, 7 days. The deceased was married to her now bereft husband March 25, 1850 in Sweden, and immediately started for American shores, coming to Illinois where they had a residence for about 20 years. They then came to Iowa where they lived in Wayne County, later coming to Lucas County where they have since resided.

Mrs. Peterson was the mother of nine children, five sons and four daughters, all of whom, except one daughter who preceded the departed to the spirit world many years ago, remain to cherish the memory of their sainted mother. They are Mrs. Neil Anderson of Benton Township, Mrs. C G Wisser of Derby, James of Monroe County, Frank, Edward, and Charles of Lincoln, Mrs. Brown of Imperial, and Alfred of Grand Island, Nebraska. The subject of this biography was a consistent member of the Swedish Lutheran Church since her confirmation at twelve years of age until about 5 years since when she went to Derby to reside and found no church of her denomination she became identified with the Presbyterian Church. During the absence of a pastor, Rev. Dunn of the M E Church conducted the funeral from the M E Church Sabbath afternoon, November 18th, Mrs. Peterson was an invalid more or less of the time for 30 years and during her last illness she was confined to bed for ten weeks, suffering intensely, but through all trusting solely in the One from whence cometh our help. Personal piety, love and loyalty to her home, and Christianity, made her the good, faithful and efficient woman she was, always recognizing and commending good everywhere. The grief stricken companion and children have the sympathy of the community in their irreparable loss, but they mourn not as those without hope, for the deceased realized that it was sweet to trust in Jesus, and would often during her sickness request the hymn “Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus’. her last words were “Jesus take me”.

Many sympathizing friends assembled at the church to show the respect they owed the departed, and followed the remains to the Derby Cemetery, where all that was mortal of wife and mother was consigned to the dreamless sleep of the grave. Peace to her ashes.
