LUCAS LEDGER ITEMS:

JOHN KAYS returned home from Lincoln, Neb., Tuesday.

SUMMER SMITH, of Melrose, and MRS. ROBERT MELROSE, of Omaha, came yesterday,
to visit JOHN C. RICKEY and wife, east of town.

MISS LAURA KNOTTS returned Tuesday evening, from a seven weeks pleasure trip
to Denver, Colo.

MRS. HANNAH KENT and MRS. W.H. NICKELL went to Des Moines, Tuesday, to visit
MRS. MARY JONES before her departure for her home in Texas.

ALBERT BAKER left yesterday evening, on No. 4 for St. Louis, where he
intends to go in partnership in the grocery business with his
brothers-in-law, ALFRED and JAMES JOHNSON.

FLOYD BELL, who has been assisting with the work at Warner & Baker's store
resigned his position today and will go to Des Moines, in a few days to
attend college. FLOYD LANE will take his place at the store.

JOHN T. ROBINSON and wife left last week for a three weeks pleasure trip to
different points in Colorado and Wyoming.

MRS. ELIZA MCCLURE, of Bloomington, Ill., came the first of the week to
visit her brother, JOHN JOHNSON, southwest of town.

MISS MARY JONES, of Concordia, Kan., came today to visit her grandfather, T
S. JONES.

C.A. SWANSON, of Sisserton, S.D., came last Friday to visit his brother, A.T
SWANSON.

MISS JESSIE NICKELL, is entertaining her cousin, MISS ELVA KENNISON, of
Canton, South Dakota.

MISS FLORENCE BELL left last Sunday, for Guernsey, Wyo., where she is
employed to teach the primary grade in the public school. MISS DORA BROWN
formerly of Lucas, is principal.

A number of the young people called on MISS JESSIE NICKELL Monday evening
and presented her with a beautiful ring, the occasion being her nineteenth
birthday. The evening was spent in playing games and ice cream and cake
were served to the guests. All enjoyed a merry time.

MRS. JASPER NICKELL left Tuesday, for Canton, S.D., to attend a reunion of
the HAW family. The meeting will be held at the home of her stepfather, in
Canton, next Sunday, seven children are still living and all are expected to
be present at the reunion. It has been a number of years since they have
been together and it will be a happy day for them. MRS. MARGARET EVANS
accompanied MRS. NICKELL on the trip.

Tuesday morning about two o'clock T.H. BROWN, living north of town,
discovered that the large barn of F.L. PIM just northwest of him was on fire
He hastened to the scene while his family aroused the neighbors over the
phone but it was too late to save the barn and contents. Several sheds were
also burned and besides the buildings one team of horses, 500 bushels of
corn, 300 bushels of oats, twenty tons of hay, three sets of harness and a
quantity of farm implements were destroyed.
