LUCAS LEDGER ITEMS:

We are glad to report the improved condition of MRS. M.C. WELCH. Her
physician thinks she may now recover.

J.B. COMSTOCK sold his property in Knotts' third addition known as the
Sanders' property to JACK TRUMAN today.

The home of Rev. WILL HUTCHINS and wife north of town was made a happy place
last Friday when the stork left a ten pound baby boy. WILL thinks the new
arrival is making music to be an evangelist musician.

I.W. KENNY southwest of Lucas who went to Creston to have his eye treated
found it necessary to have it taken out. The operation was successfully
performed and he is now doing nicely under the care of Dr. Geo. Croston.

The infant son of F.J. GOBEN and wife, who has been sick for some time, died
last Friday morning. Elder Thos. John conducted the funeral services at the
home on Sunday afternoon and the remains were interred in the Fry Hill
Cemetery.

MRS. JANE OWENS and son, JOHN returned home Monday evening from Glenwood
where they had been called to see her son, DAVID who is in a serious
condition with tuberculosis. The superintendent of the school would let MRS
OWENS bring him home but he was too weak to stand the journey.

CHAS. MUNDELL southwest of Lucas lost his barn by fire Sunday evening about
9 o'clock. How it originated is a mystery. The family had retired and he
was awakened by the dog making a peculiar noise and on looking out noticed
the fire. He only had one of his horses in the barn and just had time to
get the animal out. His harness and numerous other articles were burned.
The loss is estimated at $500 and he only carried $100 insurance.

Last Friday was the 25th wedding anniversary of the marriage of WM.
PALFREYMAN and his estimable wife and a number of their friends planned a
very pleasant surprise for them. Thirty-three of the neighbors called on
them in the evening carrying big baskets filled with all the good things the
Lucas County farmers' wives know so well how to prepare and to say they
spent a jolly evening doesn't half tell the story. Before separating Ed
Clothier on behalf of the assembled guests in a pleasing speech, presented
MR. and MRS. PALFREYMAN a fine set of silver knives and forks.
