The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, January 17, 1907

The home of MR. and MRS. JAMES PARSONS, in southwest Chariton, was the scene
of a very pretty wedding on Wednesday evening Jan. 9, 1907, when their
daughter BERTHA M., was united in marriage to MR. FLOYD D. MATHEWS, of
Joliet, Montana, in the presence of fifty invited guests. Promptly at 6 o
clock, to the strains of Mendelssohn's wedding march, executed by Mrs.
George Parsons, the bridal couple entered the parlor, attended by Miss
Nellie Miller of Agency, as maid of honor, and Mr. Charles Parsons of Joliet
brother of the bride, as best man, and took their places in the archway
underneath a white wedding bell and cluster of white roses, where Rev. F.B.
Palmer, Pastor of the Baptist Church, in a very impressive manner pronounced
the words which united their lives and their fortunes. Immediately
following the ceremony and congratulations, the guests repaired to the
dining room where an elaborate two-course dinner was served.

The house was beautifully decorated with strands of evergreen and gold
tinsel and presented a pleasing effect. The table decorations were pink
carnations. The bride looked charming in a dress of white albatross over
white, and framed with white lace and ribbon. The maid of honor wore white
Persion lawn over white, trimmed with venciences lace. The groom wore the
customary black. The bride is a popular and accomplished young lady of
Lucas County, having resided here all her life, and by her sweet amiable
disposition and many graces has won the high esteem of all whom she has come
in contact. The groom is a young man of sterling worth and integrity, was
raised in this county, but seeing greater opportunities in the west, located
in Joliet, Montana, about three years ago where he is engaged in real estate
and insurance, and where they will be at home to their friends after Feby
1st. This young couple start out on life's matrimonial sea with bright
prospects, and The Leader joins a host of friends in congratulations and
best wishes for their future happiness and prosperity.

Among the out of town guests were Mrs. Mathews, mother of the groom, Mr. and
Mrs. Stafford of Freedom, and Mr. and Mrs. Westfall of Derby, Miss Nellie
Miller of Agency, Charles Parsons of Joliet, Montana.
