The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 14, 1907J.M. WHISENAND and wife were happily surprised by their neighbors stealing a march on them, Monday, to remind them that it was the 56th anniversary of their marriage. The invading guests numbered not less than thirty-five and carried with them a full supply of commissary stores on which to feast at the noon hour. It was a happy social event and many stories were related of the long ago, as well as of the latter days. MR. and MRS. WHISENAND were presented with a handsome plush robe, J.M. Cowan making the presentation speech, but in this he did not catch his host napping. MR. WHISENAND responded in a manner which proved that he was no novice at "public speaking." The congratulations were mutual and all say it was about the best time they ever had in their lives.
