Page 1Mrs. Clarissa Morgan, one of the oldest residents of this city, passed away Tuesday morning shortly before the noon hour at her home where she resided continuously for the past fifty-three years. Death resulted after an illness of several weeks duration. Clarissa Drake, daughter of John and Mary (Clark) Drake, was born in Wapello July 31, 1842 her parents being among the early pioneers settling here in 1837.
On October 29, 1863, she was united in marriage with Cyrne Morgan, who was in business in Wapello many years, conducting a harness shop and later a hardware store. Their union was blessed with three children: William, of Monmouth, Mary, wife of George Gause, of Galesburg and Frank, assistant cashier of the Wapello State Savings bank. The husband and father passed away March 4, 1892. Mr. Morgan was a director in the Wapello State Savings bank holding that office longer than any other person. Funeral services were held from the home this morning at 10:30 conducted by Rev. F. H. Austermann and interment was made in Wapello cemetery.
