Page 1John McCleode Thompson was born May 2, 1873 in Morning Sun and passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct. 11, 1919. The deceased was the son of Samuel A. and Susan Thompson, grew to manhood there and attended the public school.
When the Spanish American War broke out he enlisted and was in Co. C. 50th Iowa Infantry, a Muscatine company. While in the service he contracted the typhoid fever from which he never regained his full strength. He was employed for a number of years in Cedar Rapids and also spent some time with his brother, James, on a fruit ranch in the state of Washington.
While thus occupied he became paralyzed and it was in this condition that he was brought to his home three years ago last June. From this sickness be but partially recovered. For the past two years he has been employed in the F. M. Brown grocery store in Morning Sun. Since the death of his sister, Rose, some two years ago, he has been his mother's companion and helper. His father and sister Iva, preceded him in death.
Those bereft of a loved one are the mother, three brothers, Carl A. and Will A. Thompson, of Morning Sun and James R. Thompson of North Yakima, Wash. He also leaves a host of friends. funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 p. m. from the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Nicholas. Interment in Elmwood cemetery.
