Page 1Wilton, Ia., Aug. 10 - After living in hourly fear of her life for more than a month, Mrs. James Kelly was last Saturday afternoon shot and fatally injured by her husband, the proprietor of a pool room here, who then reloaded his revolver and ended his own life. Mrs. Kelly lingered in an unconscious condition from 5:30 o'clock, the time of the shooting, until 7:30, when she passed away.
Mrs. Kelly, whose maiden name was Emma A. Schuetzler, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Schuetzler of Geneseo, Ill. and was born at Morristown, Ill, in December 1882. It was after the family moved to Geneseo that she met James A. Kelly and they were married 14 years ago. Since their marriage they had resided in a number of places, including Wapello and that vicinity. They came to Wilton about three years ago. Mrs. Kelly is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rotz, Wyman, Ia., Mrs. Fred Miller, Geneseo, Ill., and Mrs. H. F. Harms of this place, by a half brother, Lawrence, who is in the U. S. Navy. Very little is known about Mr. Kelly's previous history but he has always given his age as slightly above 40. The children Charles, Bernice and Raymond will probably remain with relatives here for the present.
The funeral of Mrs. Kelly was held in Wilton Monday conducted by Rev. Happel of the German Lutheran church and the remains were brought to Wapello on the noon train and interred by the side of her child in the Wapello cemetery. The body of Mr. Kelly was removed to the undertaking parlors in Wilton to await word from relatives but as none could be found it was brought to this city Tuesday on the noon train and buried in the family lot in the Wapello cemetery.
