Page 1Eliza J. Gray, daughter of Martin and Mary Armstrong Gray, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, March 21, 1827, died October 25, 1912. She came to Grandview, Iowa, with her parents in 1840, when this state was in its infancy. On September 27, 1840, she was united in marriage of Johnson Paris, who brought his bride to the home in Port Louisa township where she has resided sixty-three years. Here their children were born and raised to manhood and womanhood and here in the old home she left a vacancy that can never be filled.
The following children survive her: Mrs. W.C. Cilley, Allen E., W. J., F. E., of Louisa county. Mrs. Jas. A. Ries of Greenville, Ohio and Mrs. W. E. Kennedy of Lawrence Kans. One son, John, died in 1873. The husband preceded her in death, having died March 15, 1904. Mrs. Paris identified herself with the U. P. church of Harrison many years ago and here in the home church her funeral was conducted by Rev. McBride and we laid her to rest in the Harrison cemetery Sabbath day, Oct. 27, 1912.
