Mrs. Mary Catherine Shaw was born at Miltonville, Ohio, April 10, 1841 and died at Wapello, Iowa, Dec. 21st, 1922, aged 81 years, 8 months and 11 days. Her earliest years until she was 18 were spent at her birthplace, her parents Haden and Rebecca Sheafor moving from Ohio to Missouri in 1859, to Fairfield, Iowa, the same year and to Toolesboro, Iowa in 1861. She was married Feb. 11, 1863 to George Shaw at Toolesboro, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union. Three preceded her in death: Griffin at the age of 8 years, 11 months and 13 days; Ray, 4 years, 11 months and 11 days; Rebecca, 4 months, and 12 days. Her husband died July 10, 1870, at Worth county, Missouri, at which place his body was buried. The children living are Haden S., of Lebanon, Neb.; John W., of Collinsville, Ohio; Harvey, of Wapello, Iowa and Carrie L. Willoughby of Oxford, Iowa. She also has 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Her brothers and sisters are William V., deceased, once county auditor of Louisa county; Mrs. Nettie Hook, deceased; Mrs. Sadie Hulick, deceased and Clark Sheafor, residing at Wapello, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Shaw made their home at Toolesboro for twelve years, when they went to Taylor county, Iowa.

After residing there about a year, they moved to Worth county, Missouri, during which time her husband died and then she moved with her children to Kansas, where they resided until 1888 when they returned to Toolesboro, Iowa, where deceased made her home for several years. For the last 10 years Mrs. Shaw has made her home with her son Harvey on a farm near Wapello, Iowa. She had enjoyed good health until the past year of two, when she gradually failed until the past eleven weeks, she became confined to her bed until death.

Mrs. Shaw was a member of the M. E. church, having joined at Toolesboro, Iowa, over 30 years ago. In her last illness she was very patient, always so thoughtful of others and appreciated everything done for her. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 24, at 2 o'clock from the M. E. church in Toolesboro, conducted by Rev. O. E. McBride. Burial was made in the Mallory cemetery.
