Taken from the issue of December 3, 1875: Muscatine was visited with a sad calamity last Saturday afternoon, in the drowning of Willie Robertson, aged fifteen , son of Dr. W. S. Robertson, formerly of Columbus City and Paul Karskaddan, aged fourteen, son of lawyer Karskaddan of that place. They went skating on Muscatine Slough and at a point two miles from the city, broke through and were lost. Some little girls of the neighborhood had seen them skating, missed them, saw the hole in the ice and surmising what had happened, carried the crushing news to the parents. The bodies were recovered an hour afterwards. They were both exemplary boys and the event has case a gloom over the entire community. The funeral took place Monday.
