Page 4Letts Record: Died at his home in Fruitland, Iowa, Wednesday evening, November 12, 1913. James Roberts. Mr. Roberts was born in North Carolina, September 17th, 1824 and was at the time of his death, 89 years, 1 month and 24 days of age. He came west, settling in Indiana in 1834 and later to Story county, Iowa and finally to this vicinity where he died at the home of his son, Oliver. March 29th, 1846, he was united in marriage to Miss Permelia A. Stewart, who died March 21st, 1902. To this union three sons, John Roberts, of Elcentro Colorado, Wm Roberts of Winona, Minnesota and Oliver Roberts, of Fruitland, Iowa, and one daughter, Mrs. George Bailey, died in Letts, Iowa, December 28th, 1912.
He was a man of quiet habits and christian instincts and had many friends, who together with his sons, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchild will deeply mourn his death. He was a member of the Baptist church having joined that denomination while a resident of Story county, Iowa in 1865. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Letts, Friday afternoon, Nov. 14th, conducted by Rev. T. F. Barker. Interment was made in the Letts cemetery beside his wife.
