The community was greatly surprised and shocked Wednesday morning to learn of the death of George W. Schofield, which occurred the night before at the Bellevue hospital in Muscatine, where he had been taken the first of the week for an operation. He had been ailing for some time with kidney trouble, which had so far advanced that medical skill was of no assistance, and he died without recovering from the operation. The remains were brought to Wapello Wednesday morning and removed to his late home in Pt. Louisa township. The funeral services were held from the Harrison church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with interment in Harrison cemetery.
