Safeguard: The death of John Crossley at Columbus City Tuesday night at 11 o'clock removed another of Louisa county's oldest citizens. He had been in poor health for several years but not seriously ill until a few days prior to his death. Deceased was born May 11, 1829, at Whitington, England, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Randolph, in Columbus City, Oct. 7, 1913. He was married in England in the year 1854 and came to America with his wife and four children in 1861. They lived in New York a short time and then moved to Des Moines county, Ia. and lived there until about twenty-six years ago when the family moved to a farm near Winfield, which was their home until about ten years ago, when they moved to Columbus City.

Mrs. Crossley passed away Sept. 17, 1906. Nine children were born to them, four in England and five in America. All are living except one child, which died in infancy. The children are: Leonard of Burlington; John S., of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Randolph, of Columbus City; Mrs. Carrie Gulick, Sioux City, Iowa; Fred W., of Muscatine; Mrs. Lucy Metzger of Winfield; Mrs. Anna Porter, Huntington Beach, Cal. and William of Columbus Junction. The funeral service is being held from the Christian church in Columbus City this (Thursday) afternoon, Rev. E. C. Brooks conducting the service. Interment will be made in Columbus City cemetery.
