Page 8Letts Record: John Idle was born in Champaign county, Ohio, in 1819 and died at his home near Letts, Ia., Thursday August 7th, 1913, aged ninety-four years. The direct cause of his death was the infirmities of old age. Dec. 2, 1839 he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy R. Kiser in Ohio, and six years later came to Iowa, settling on a farm in Concord township on which he continued to reside from the time he came to Louisa county in 1845, until his death in 1913, a period of 68 years. His wife preceded him in death in Feb. 1890. He is survived by three children, Zacharius Idle, of Kingston, Texas; Frank Idle of Letts, Iowa and Mrs. A. V. Riggs, of Douds-Leando, Iowa, all of whom were at his beside when his spirit passed away.
He was one of the oldest citizens in the county, a man of exemplary habits, whose long continued residence and christian life endeared him in the estimation of his neighbors and friends. The funeral services were held Friday at 2 p. m. at his home west of town, Rev. T. F. Barker, of the M. E. church of Letts, officiating. Interment was made in Cedar Bethel cemetery. The funeral was in charge of the Masonic lodge of Letts.
