Mrs. Carey had been failing gradually for some time, but it was not until a week ago that she was taken seriously ill. At that time she experienced a severe attack of dysentery and this together with other minor ailments, soon caused the collapse of her weakened constitution. She was very well known in both Muscatine and Louisa counties and her death will be mourned by many. Miss Sarah Ellis was born in Blunt county, Tenn., on June 8th, 1841 and moved to Iowa more than 50 years ago. She settled in Louisa county, where she lived for about 40 years. She was united in marriage to Aden Carey on November 25, 1860, at Wapello, Ia. Ten years ago they move to Muscatine and since their arrival made many friends. Nineteen months ago her husband died.
Mrs. Carey was a devout christian, and for many years was a member of the Church of God. She was also affiliated with the local Banner lodge. She is survived by seven children- Mrs. John Asp, Mrs. M. O. Stroh, Mrs. George Rink, of South Muscatine; Lake Erie Carey, of Wapello; Thomas J. Carey, of Fredonia; Mrs. John Butler, of Mulberry street, and Otto at home. The funeral will be held Saturday morning from the house and the remains will be taken over the M. N. & S, to Grandview, where another brief service is to be held. Interment will be made in the Indian Creek cemetery near Fredonia.
