P. M. Axtell, a former resident of this vicinity, died last week in Jewell county, Kan., and the remains were brought back Sunday morning. The funeral was held at the home of his son, Perry, in Columbus Junction and the interment was made at Indian Creek cemetery. Of his seven children six were present at the funeral. Mrs. Peter Wilson of this place is one of the surviving children. Until a few years ago Mr. Axtell resided in Columbus City and we understand was preparing to return to this county for a visit when the summons came. He was a veteran of the civil war and a man of rugged frame and good metal abilities. Old friends will cherish the memories of one who was a good neighbor and steadfast friend.
