Page 1James A. Leamon, a highly respected citizen of Wapello, died Monday morning, July 8, 1907, aged 58 years, 7 months and 19 days. He was born Nov. 19, 1848, at New Market, Ohio. He came to Iowa in 1868 and was married to Miss Sadie Bates, of Marshall township, in 1870, who, with three children survive him. Mrs. R. B. Cain, of Mason City, Iowa, R. L. Leamon, of Sutler, Cal., and Miss Alice at home. Mr. Leamon had been gradually failing in health for the past seven years, as the result of a severe attack of pneumonia. He continued to work at his trade of carpentering, however, until about a year ago, since which time he failed rapidly, especially for the past seven months. He refused to take his bed until about three days before his death. He was up most of the time the Fourth, but collapsed completely from two severe hemorrhages, suffering terribly until the end came.
Mr. Leamon was a quiet, unobtrusive man, from whose lips no word of harm or of complaint escaped. He loved peace and followed it with all men. He was brought up in the faith of his parents who were Presbyterians, and while not a member of the church here he trusted in the Saviour as his friend and seemed perfectly resigned. He was a good man and God is good and the Lord knoweth them that are His. This is the faith of the human heart. The funeral services were held at he Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Theo. Koopman. Interment in the Wapello cemetery.
