Hugh Jones, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Louisa county, was buried last Thursday in the Colton cemetery in Union township. He was 88 years of age at the time of his death. Hugh Jones was born in Wales, December 25, 1819 and came to America in 1847. For a few years he lived at Cincinnati, Ohio and then came to Iowa where he entered government land near Columbus City. He was married to Miss Sarah Barnard, of Muscatine county, July 16, 1854, For the past few years they have lived near Cairo, until last winter when they became too feeble to live alone and have since been cared for at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Jno. Summerville.

Mr. Jones was the father of twelve children, two died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Wm Flack, died seventeen years ago. Five sons and four daughters, with the aged wife and mother, survive. They are H. E. at Old Clifton; Horace of Ida Springs, Colo., Lee of Black Hawk, Colo., Frank of Montana; Price, who for a number of years has been at the Mt. Pleasant hospital, Mrs. Mary Brown and Mrs. Addie Sumemrville of Union township; Mrs. Emma McCracken of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Lillie Smith of Hancock, Minn
