At the advanced age of over 86 years Samuel Phillips passed away at he home of his son, Frank Phillips, near Oakville, at 3 o'clock a. m. January 17. Samuel Phillips was born in Indian May 8, 1818. He was married to Susannah Barbery Keever, who died August 8, 1886. Ten children were born to them, of whom six are living. They are: Mrs. Ann Hoffman, of White Cloud, Kan.; Jane Hoffman, of Summitsville, Ia.; Mrs. Rhoda Woods, of Muscatine; Henry Phillips, of near Grandview; John Phillips, of Buffalo, Ia, Frank Phillips, of near Oakville. The cause of death was paralysis and hemorrhage of the brain. Rev. Childress, of Letts, conducted the funeral services. Interment was in Kaiser cemetery in township 76. Mr. Phillips had spent most of his life in Louisa county and was well known. He leaves a host of friends.
