William Dobbs died Sunday evening, October 30th, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Nancy J. Foster. The end came suddenly and peacefully. He had been afflicted for several years with an incurable disease and had often stated that death would be a great relief. The funeral services were held from his late home Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. W. H. Cooper, with interment in the Harrison cemetery.

The subject of this sketch was born in Pennsylvania, September 26, 1840. In his father's family there were three sons and two daughters, of whom one daughter and one son survive. Mrs. Nancy J. Foster, of this city, and Renwick Dobbs, of Sloan, Iowa. The deceased came with his parents to Iowa in 1860 and assisted in making their home east of the Iowa river in this county. In his earlier life he was a member of the United Presbyterian church, but in later years he has not been able to take part or attend church owing to his bodily afflictions.
