Enoch L. Hayden died at his home in this city Sunday, October 23. He was born August 1st, 1854, in Des Moines county, Iowa and moved with his parents to Louisa county in the spring of 1866. He spent the remainder of his life in this county, with the exception of one year in Nebraska and about one year and a half of the closing days of his life in Texas, where he went on account of his failing health. He returned home about six weeks ago and his decline has been steady since that time. He was united in marriage on July 31, 1879, to Eliza Anderson, who with three children - Louis, Ross and Grace - are left to mourn the death of a loving husband and a kind parent. He also leaves four brothers - G. W. and M. T., of Wapello; L. D., of Oakville, and W., of Portland, Oregon.

The deceased lived for many years in Eliot township, where he was known and respected by all men. He held many office to trust in that township and was always worthy of the confidence reposed in him. The funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Reusch, with interment in Wapello cemetery.
