Sarah Ida Vandevort was born in Burlington, Iowa, March 21, 1889. She was married Aug. 15th, 1889, to John W. Guthrie, and died at her late home in this city on Wednesday, Aug. 3. Besides the husband, she leaves to mourn her untimely death, father, mother, three brothers and two sisters. The cause of her death was quick consumption, growing out of an attack of the grippe contracted last February. The deceased was a woman universally liked in the community for her pleasant manners and high womanly character. She was a member of the Women's Relief Corps, and the members of that order attended the obsequies in a body. The funeral services were held from the Methodist church Friday forenoon, conducted by Rev. M. E. Reusch, interment in Wapello cemetery.
