Mrs. Martha J. Morris departed this life last Friday at her home in this city at the ripe age of 84 years and 3 days. She was born in Lexington, Ky., Nov. 10th, 1819. At the age of seven she came with her parents to Burlington, Iowa, and lived in that city until she was twenty years old when she married to Charles F. Morris and then returned to his birthplace in Parkersburg, West Virginia, where they resided some years. Two children, Thomas and William, were born to them during their residence in Parkersburg, the latter dying while quite young.

In the year 1845 Mr. and Mrs. Morris returned to Iowa and located in Wapello, which has been their home ever since. After their removal to Wapello six other children were born to them. Edward, Emma, Charles, Ella, James, and Mrs. Mattie McCray; Emma and Ella dying while young and Charles after he had grown to manhood.

When the war of the rebellion broke out Mr. Morris enlisted in the Nineteenth Iowa Volunteers, and at the battle of Prairie Grove, Ark., he was mortally wounded and died in a short time afterward in the hospital at Fayetteville, Ark.

Deceased was a highly respected and consistent christian woman, being a member of the Wapello M. E. church. The funeral was held Saturday from her late home, conducted by Rev. M. E. Reusch, with interment in the Wapello cemetery.
