K. B. Collins, a highly respected citizen of Port Louisa township, died suddenly last Sunday evening after two hours sickness, with apoplexy. He had spent the day with his daughter in Grandview and returned to his home in the evening feeling as well as usual. He ate a hearty supper and shortly afterwards was taken sick an expired before medical aid could be summoned. The funeral services were held from the Lone Tree church Tuesday forenoon conducted by Rev. Woods, of Grandview, and interment was made in the West Port cemetery.

The deceased was highly respected and useful citizen of the community in which he lived. He was born in Wood county, Virginia, October 1831. At the age of seventeen he came to Iowa, settling near Burlington, where he remained two years, and in 1850 went to Wisconsin, where he remained until 1855, at which time he took up his residence in Louisa county. From 1855 to 1862, in Port Louisa, he was engaged in supplying wood to steamboats and railroads. In July 1861 he was united in marriage with Eliza (Springer) Humphrey. After his marriage Mr. Collins settled at Port Louisa, where he engaged in the hotel business and also dealt in wood. He purchased a farm near Pt. Louisa in 1870, and has since that time followed that occupation. Ten children were the fruits of this union, the mother and four children being left to mourn the death of the husband and father.
