Columbus Junction, Ia., Aug. 27 - Hubbard VanDyke, a son of D. W. VanDyke, of Fredonia, was drowned this afternoon in a slough connected with the Iowa river. He and a half dozen companions were wading in the slough when he stepped into a deep hole. He could not swim and the boys with him were too badly frightened to give him any help. The alarm was given and the body was recovered an hour later. He was about seven years old. His father is a hard working laboring man and has a large family of children.
