Death has reached out and snatched from our midst, an aged father, Andrew B. Mewhirter. After suffering for several weeks he passed away Monday morning, July 21st. On Tuesday, at 10'clock, quite a large concourse of friends and neighbors gathered at bereaved home and followed the remains to the Oakland church where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Parvin of Morning Sun. After the service the remains were laid to rest in the Oakland cemetery.

The deceased had lived long in this community and all knew him as an industrious and energetic citizen. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church. The deceased was born in 1827, having passed the seventy-fifth milestone in life. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn the loss of a loving father, two children dying in infancy. The deceased was a veteran on the Civil war, enlisting August, 1862 and serving continually until August, 1865, as a member of the 19th Iowa infantry.
