Agnes (McGregor) Bird was born January 29th, 1819, in Beaver county Pennsylvania, of Scotch-Irish parentage. She made a profession of faith and was united with the Presbyterian church of Slippery Rock, Penn., in her girlhood. On May 14th, 1840, she was united in marriage with Elijah Bird, who died March 20th, 1896. To them nine children were born. The oldest died in childhood, but eight grew to maturity. In the spring of 1865 the family moved to Wapello, Iowa, where she lived on the farm south of town until her death, which occurred Aug. 13, 1897, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 15 days.

She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church of Wapello for over 30 years. She was a faithful mother and a kind neighbor and has gone to her reward. The funeral occurred Sunday forenoon from the Presbyterian church, the service being conducted in the absence of the pastor by Rev, Bean, of Lone Tree, Iowa. The remains were laid to rest beside her husband in the Wapello cemetery.
