Another veteran of the civil war has passed to his reward. James V. Goodrich died in this city at 11:30 a. m. Sunday, April 25. He was born at Lusanton Falls in the state of Vermont, May 29, 1842. While yet a young man he came to the state of New York, where he was living when the civil war began. He was twice enrolled as a defender of the union. His first enlistment was as a cavalry man. He later became a member of the 196th N. Y. regiment of Vol. Inf. In the year 1888 he came to Wapello Iowa, where on the 28th day of the same year he was married to Mrs. M. E. McGraw, who still survives him.

About nine years before coming to Iowa he united with the Methodist church, and having his membership transferred to the Methodist church at Wapello, he continued a member of that denomination until his death. His funeral services were held at his late residence in Wapello under the auspices of Post No. 153 G.A. R. His body laid at rest in the Wapello cemetery.
