Rebecca McKay was born December 25, 1817, in Kentucky; removed in childhood to Illinois. Was married to James McKay in 1832 and in 1842 came to Louisa county, Iowa. Her husband died in 1850, on his way to California to search for gold and wealth, leaving his wife here until he should elect to stay of having bettered his fortune return here. There were born to them 10 children all of who she has out lived but N. W. McKay and Dan McKay, know to all of us, and a daughter, Mrs. Judge James N. Davis, of Chillicothe, Missouri. All of these surviving children were with her at the home of Daniel McKay when she passed away and at her interment in our beautiful cemetery, April 2, 1897. Mrs. McKay was a member of the Christian church, uniting with it in girlhood and continuing in the faith all her life.
