Henry Bier died at the home of his son-in-law, Mark Dotson, Saturday, Jan. 23, 1897, aged 85 years. Deceased was born in Chester county, Pa., Dec. 13th, 1812. On Dec. 7th, 12? he was joined in marriage to Miss Elizabeth McCormick in which union six children were born, five of whom now survive to mourn his death. In 1835 he and his wife removed to Champion county, Ohio where they resided till the fall of 1842 when they departed for Iowa, then a territory, locating in Louisa county. His loving wife that had braved the hardships of early days in Iowa passed from this earth Feb. 16, 1866. On Oct 7, 1875 deceased was again united in marriage to Mrs. Lucinda ? who departed this life July 27, 1892.

Deceased has always lived an exemplary Christian life. He gave his heart to God and united with the M.E. church in 1832. In 1850 he united by letter with the M. P. church at Fairview. He was one of the main leaders in the building of this church. He lived a good life and has passed to his reward. The funeral services were held Monday, Rev. R. S. Tague conducting and his remains were laid to rest in the Fairview cemetery beside those of his departed partners in life.
