Our neighbor, Alvah Morse, was born in Chenango county, N. Y. in 1820. Of a family of eight he was the fifth. Three brothers and one sister are living, two brothers and his sister being present at his obsequies. He came to Iowa in 1848, to this county in 1850 and bought and began improvements on the farm whereon he died. In 1851 he led to the marriage alter Miss Jane Campbell. To this happy union were born eleven children, five of whom with their devoted mother live in mourn so great a loss. John, Jerome, Willie and Cosena, now Mrs. Wolf, live near and are married, while Carrie remains at home, a comfort to her father and now the solace of her stricken mother. Mr. Morse died March 26, 1894, being 74 years, 1 month and 27 days old. These many long years he sailed with God the seas of life and now returns home to the haven of eternal rest.
