The body of Warren H. Shaffer was found last Thursday in the river near the foot of Main street. It was twelve feet from the shore. Mr. Shaffer who lived just across the river in Iowa was last seen alive on the evening of Feb. 6th and had declared his intentions of crossing the river and going home. His friends on this side of the river supposed he had crossed in safety, while those on the thither side supposed he was staying with his friends, until they sent word for him here and found that he had started for home several day before. They suspected the worst and it was the general belief that he had drowned while crossing the river.

When the relatives of the deceased became convinced that a fatal accident had befallen him they offered a reward of $100 for the recovery of his body. Several partied started to search which resulted in its discovery last Thursday evening about 4 o'clock. The body was taken to the Patterson House. The remains were taken to his home on Tater Island yesterday a forenoon where the funeral will take place at 2 o'clock after which the remains will be interred in the Mallory cemetery.

Mr. Shaffer was in his 76th year of age, and for many years has been a resident of Louisa co, Iowa. He leaves an aged wife and two daughters, Mrs. James Riley, who lives east of New Boston six miles and Mrs. Thos. Flitch, a resident of Toolesboro, Iowa to mourn his loss.
