Emma Alice Drake, wife of Will S. Drake of this township died Saturday morning, May 6th, at 5:30 o'clock, of scarletina, aged 21 years, 11 months and 28 days. She was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Shipman, and was born on the old McCormick farm in the south part of this township, never having lived away from the friends of her childhood. Only eighteen months of married life were permitted her, when she was called from earth. Besides her husband and parents who are left to mourn the loss of a wife and daughter, an infant but nine days old is left. The death of Mrs. Drake was so unexpected that its announcement was a sudden shock to the neighbors and friends. The funeral occured from the house Sunday afternoon, the ceremonies, which were brief but impressive being conducted by Rev. J. C. Willits. The remains were laid to rest in the Wapello cemetery.
