Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock another of Wapello's long time and highly respected citizens paid the debt of nature at the advanced age of 81 years, 3 months and 10 days. John Allison was born in Hamilton, Canada, March 29, 1808. During the time of the Canadian trouble in 1837. Mr. Allison moved with his family to Iowa, settling in this city where he has resided ever since. A wagon maker by trade he industriously followed his occupation until a few years ago his advanced age propelled him to retire from regular work. Friday evening he was attacked by what seemed to be cholera morbus and a physician was called. About 9 o'clock his life seemed to suddenly go out. The doctor pronounced it paralysis of the heart.

Mr. Allison early united with the M. E. church, and he and his devoted wife were among the first members of the church in this place. He was also one of the organizers of the Sons of Temperance in Wapello. He leaves behind an aged wife, a son and a daughter, Mrs. B. F. Wright. The son, John, was a soldier in the late war and has been in the regular army ever since, until quite recently he quit the services and located on the Pacific coast. The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon from the late home of the deceased, Rev. J. H. Condit conducting a brief service, when a large company followed the remains to their last resting place.
