B. H. Druse died at Mt. Pleasant, Ia., Monday , Oct 25th. Benj. H. Druse was born in New York, Oct. 24th, 1819 and was therefore72 years and two days old when he died. He came to Iowa in 1851 and although away for a short time during the war and once or twice since, he always claimed Wapello as his home. He was married to Miss Catherine Cotton about 1858, by whom he had three children, the first born, Frank dying in early childhood and the mother in 1871. Mr. Druse was again married in 1879 to Mrs. Mercy N. Archibald, who died April 25, 1887. The immediate cause of his death was ossification of the veins, which gradually stopped the supply of blood to the different parts of the body, the brain as well.

Mr. Druse was a man of unusual energy, great perseverance and public spirited. A loyal citizen, good neighbor, kind husband and indulgent father, he will not only be missed and mourned by the two surviving children, but by a large circle of friends. The remains were brought to Wapello last Tuesday for interment and the funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church by J. C. Willits. Of the two children, Rev. H. C. Druse, of West Burlington and Mrs. Jennie M. Thompson, of Trumbull, O., only the son was present.
