Col. John Bird of Burlington died at his home last Sunday and the remains were deposited in the Wapello cemetery yesterday. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1819, studied law in Ohio, and came to Wapello in 1843. In 1845 he married Rebecca Minton, who with four children survive him. Nearly all of Mr. Bird's active life was spent in Wapello and here his remains will moulder into dust, He was Captain of company "F" 19th Iowa, in the war, and at different times held civil trusts. Ten years ago he moved to Burlington where he has since lived in comparative retirement.
