In this place last Saturday night, of congestion of the lungs, Mahlon Sanders, in the 53d year of his age. Mr. Sanders had been a resident of this place since two years and was City Marshal at the time of his death. He was born in Virginia and emigrated in 1836 or 1837 with his parents to Mercer county, Illinois, where he lived until after the war, when he came to this State. During the Rebellion he served three years in Col. Burford's regiment and was throughout a brave, faithful soldier. He was a man of great warmth of patriotic feelings. In religion he was a Rationalist and died in that belief. A large company of citizens followed his remains to the grave, the City Council, by official action, acting as his pall bearers.
