Ann Richards 1833-1922

Ann Arthur Richards was born in Meionithshire, Wales, Great Britain, on the 16th day of May, 1833 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie E. Pugh, Stratton, Colorado, on April 9th, 1922 at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 24 days. Grandma Richards, as she was more generally known, widow of the late John Richards, spent nearly her whole life in this immediate vicinity, coming here with her parents, William and Catherine Arthur, and starting a home near the banks of Long Creek in 1844. She lived 41 years on one farm four miles south of Cotter, and 25 years just south of the town of Cotter. During the past year she has been at the home of her daughter, Jennie. Mr. and Mrs. John Richards were married August 13, 1861 and to them was the privilege of celebrating their Golden Wedding in 1911. Six years later after this event Mr. Richards passed away having advanced to the age of 87 years.

The surviving members are the three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Rachel Jones, of Spencer, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Richards, of Washington, Iowa; Mrs. Jennie Pugh, of Stratton, Colorado; W. A. Richards, of Stratton Colorado; R. L. Richards of Cotter,Iowa. One daughter, Kate and one son, Luther, having died in youth and two sons in infancy. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Richards was a faithful member of the Cotter church being on if its charter members. The remains were brought to Cotter Wednesday evening and taken to the home of her son, R. L Richards. Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at one o'clock at the Cotter church conducted by Rev. Richards and interment was made in the Cambrian cemetery.
