Page 1Funeral services for Garland Teel, whose body arrived in this city from France, Friday night, were held at the United Presbyterian church at Columbus City at 10:30 Sunday morning. The service was largely attended by relatives and friends and the local American Legion Post attended in a body and had charge of the service. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. H. Dillon, of this city. The service at the grave was impressive. The burial service read by Commander K.M. Arington and as the body was lowed to its final resting place besides the mother who died a number of years ago a military salute was given followed by tapes.
Garland B. Teel was born in Wayne Co., West Virginia, December 30, 1892 and was killed in action in the St. Mihiel sector in France, September 13, 1918. He was a member of Co. F. of the 358th Infantry. He came to Iowa at the age of ten and this was his home until he departed for France. Those who survive are: his father, Jacob H. Teel, of West Virginia; his brothers, W. S. Teel, of Columbus City; James of near Cotter; Y. S. of Cairo; Newton, of near Gladwin; H. J. of Muscatine; Marcellus and W. W. Teel, of Columbus Junction and sisters, Mrs. Leona Kauffman of DeWitt; and Mrs. Nora Fox, of this city.
