Page 1Mrs. S. B. Mulhern, a pioneer citizen of this community, passed away at her home in this city, Friday, May 6th, following an illness of several months. Margaret Ellen Mulhern, daughter of James A. and Mary Ann (Duncan) Harmon, was born in Blout county, Tennessee, July 10, 1843 and died at Columbus Junction, Iowa, May 6, 1921, aged 77years, 9 months and 26 days. Early in life she came to this county with her parents and made this her home with the exception of a few years spent in Nebraska in her early married life.
She was first married to Miles D. Westcott, who enlisted in the Union army soon after the breaking out of hostilities and gave his life in the service of his country in the Civil War. September 30, 1879, she was married to Samuel B. Mulhern, who departed his life, December 6, 1905. To them four children were born, James Albert, Anna M., John Louis and William R. all of whom survive to mourn her death.
She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. C. W. Hildebrand, of Mount Vernon, Washington and Mrs. J. T. Carlyle, of this city and one brother, S. M. Harmon, also of this city. One brother, James H. and one sister Emma, preceded her in death. Mrs. Mulhern was a member of Trinity Reformed church of this city and enjoyed the esteem of a wide circle of friends. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon conducted by her pastor, Rev. G. A. Ingle, of Conesville. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
