Mrs. Rachel Edwards was born in Ty Newydd Melin Meredin, Montgomeryshire, Wales, August 10, 1842, and died at her home in Cotter, Iowa, December 9, 1914, about 5 o'clock p. m. in the 73rd year of her life. She came to America with her parents in 1861. The family settled in the Welsh Neighborhood near Long Creek, Iowa. In 1862 she was married to John Thomas of Long Creek, who preceded her in death many years ago. February 5, 1877 she was married to Evan Edwards. To this union was born one child, who died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards lived on a farm in the Welsh Neighborhood for 21 years. They moved to Cotter 16 years ago where they lived until her death.

Mrs. Edwards became a devout christian early in life. During her residence at Long Creek she attended faithfully the Salem church and was an active member until her removal to Cotter. For the last 16 years Bethel church was her religious home. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Evan Edwards, of Cotter, Iowa and one brother, John J. Davies, of Cotter, Iowa. In addition to these a host of other relatives and a large circle of friends mourn her loss. Interment in the Cambrian cemetery.
