James Manley, a well known resident of Columbus City, died at his home there Tuesday, November 17, at 6:30 after a lingering illness of several months. James Manley was born in Park county, Indiana, December 4, 1837 and died at his home in Columbus City, November 17, 1914, being of the age at his death of 76 years, 11 months and 13 days. He was married to Miss Flora Ellen Lemon in 1883 and to this union five children were born, three of whom preceded him in death. Mrs. Manley died November 14, 1903. The two surviving children are Ellsworth and Elberta, both at home. He also leaves to mourn his death, two sisters, Mrs. M. E. Riley, of Columbus City and Mrs. Harriet Orr, of Muscatine.

He united with the Christian church in early life and has been a strong advocate of its doctrines and lived a consistent Christian life. Shortly after the breaking out of the civil war he enlisted in Co. C. of the 11th Iowa Infantry and served until October 17, 1864 when he was honorably discharged at Chattanooga, Tenn. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the home at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. S. K. Coats, of Washington. Interment was made in the Beauchamp cemetery.
