The funeral of Gilbert L. Thomas, who died Thursday evening at Muscatine, was held at Columbus City Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock conducted by Rev. L. H. Smith at the U. B. church. Gilbert Lafayette Thomas was born in Binghamton, N. Y., July 3, 1825. On September 11, 1849 he was united in marriage with Miss Marie Logan at Chicago, and they moved to Pekin, Ill., the same year where he was in the drug business. He remained in that city until 1862 when they moved to Washington, Iowa, where he also was in the drug business.

They remained there for two years when they moved to Columbus City and in that city he engaged in the photographic business until the year 1900. While in Columbus City he also conducted a book store in connection with his other business. In August 10, 1911 his wife died and since that time he made his home with his son, Charles E. Thomas of 202 East Eight street in Muscatine. The decedent was the father of seven children, two of whom died in childhood. The five surviving are Gilbert T. Thomas, Mobile, Alabama; George W. Thomas, of East Orange, New Jersey; Benjamin F. Thomas, New York City; Charles E. Thomas, of Muscatine, Mrs. Clara Brown, of Alhambra, California. Interment was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
