Mrs. John Bretz, a well known resident of Louisa county, died at her home near Cairo, Sunday afternoon, April 6, 1915, at the age of 59 years, 9 mothers and 10 days. She was sick only a short time having taken seriously sick only the previous Saturday evening. Anna Cassabaum was born at York, Pennsylvania, June 20, 1853. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1859 and moved with them into a farm near Columbus City. She was married to John Bretz February 5, 1874. To this union were born three children: Mrs. Clarence Kemp of near this city, Mrs. W. H. Meeker of Winfield and W. H. Bretz of Salem, Oregon. These with seven grandchildren and the father are left to mourn the death of a loving and kind mother. Mrs. Bretz was devoted to her home and family. In addition to the immediate family she is also survived by one sister, Mrs. T. F. Hanft and three brothers, James, William and Frederick Cassabaum. Mr. and Mrs. Bretz have resided near Cairo for about thirty-eight years and both enjoyed a wide circle of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the church at Cairo, Wednesday morning by Rev. L. H. Smith, pastor of the United Brethren church of Columbus City. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
